QuickBooks for Canadian SMEs: Reconcile Bank and Credit Card Feeds in 10 Minutes Flat
QuickBooks bank feeds make reconciliation simple for Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). They help create accurate books that meet Canada Revenue Agency requirements in under 10 minutes for basic monthly tasks.

This 10-minute guide works best for clean bank feeds with few unmatched transactions and simple monthly statements. High-volume trading, errors, or first-time setups may take longer. For complex cases, consult professionals like Canexi Accounting & Tax Solutions.
Why Reconcile Bank Feeds?
Reconciling matches your QuickBooks records to the bank or credit card statement. It helps find errors, duplicates, or fraud early. Bank feeds automatically mark cleared items, which supports accurate GST/HST and T2 reporting.
Prepare Your Account (1 Minute – Longer for First-Time Setup)
Go to Transactions (or Accounting in newer versions) > Bank transactions > Connect account. Connect both your bank and credit card accounts, as long as your Canadian financial institution supports feeds. First-time setups require bank login verification, which takes 5 to 10 minutes or more. If your bank is not listed, upload transactions from a CSV or OFX file. Download your bank or credit card statement as a PDF file. Open the PDF and note these key details from the statement period: the ending balance (final amount), the exact ending date, any fees or service charges, and any interest earned or finance charges. Clear any unmatched transactions from the feeds first. Note that menus may change—use the search bar if paths differ after 2025 updates.
Start Reconciliation (2 Minutes)
Go to Transactions (or Accounting in newer versions) > Reconcile, then select your bank or credit card account you want to work on. Enter the ending date and balance from your statement. Add any service charges and interest earned if they are missing. Check that the beginning balance matches your last reconciliation for that bank or credit card account.
Match Transactions (5 Minutes)
Review the list of transactions. Bank feeds pre-check items that match automatically. Use filters for date or amount to compare charges, payments, deposits, and credits with your bank or credit card statement. Mark any uncleared items. Make sure the difference reaches zero dollars by fixing duplicates or missing entries.
Finish and Attach Statement (2 Minutes)
Click Finish Now and save the report. Go to Transactions (or Accounting in newer versions) > Reconcile. Click the History by account button in the right-hand corner. The latest reconciliations appear automatically. In the Statements column, click "Attach" to upload your PDF bank or credit card statement. Excel files do not work.
Pro Tips
Create bank rules for recurring transactions to speed up future work. Reconcile bank accounts monthly for clean records. Apply the same steps to each active credit card account every month so both bank and card balances stay accurate and ready for review or audit.
